How are you all coping with Newcastle United finally winning silverware after 56 long and arduous years?

After having a few pints in Tynemouth Club, I invited my friends Shirley and Allan back to mine to watch the Carabao Cup Final against Liverpool at Wembley in March.

I had been having good vibes going into this game, and got the impression that we would’nt let emotion take over the occasion, like it had in our previous final against Manchester United in 2023.

Well what can I say about the match other than that the Toon and our supporters were bloody wonderful on the day.

We quickly got to grips and dominated the EPL champions elect in the early exchanges.

When local lad Dan Burn soared like an albatross not a magpie, and planted his 45th minute bullet header into the scousers net, I let out a canny cry of joy. Going in 1-0 up was the least United and Big Dan deserved at half-time.

After coming out firing after the break and having a goal disallowed for offside, we swiftly ploughed forward again in search of a killer second goal.

Cometh the hour cometh the man. United’s very own Rolls Royce Alexander Isak clinically finishing off a move after some fine interplay by Barnes, Livramento and Murphy.

Our fans at Wembley were going delirious as the players celebrated in front of them near the left corner flag.

Composure was quickly regained, and Ice Cold Alex nearly scored again as Eddie Howe’s boys realised they had one hand on the Cup.

All we had to do was see the game out, and apart from the red scousers nicking a very late consolation, Newcastle United remained solid and were worthy winners.

I just sat back and let out a great sigh of relief on hearing the final whistle. After so many Wembley no-shows down the years, my beloved team had eventually turned up.

Allan who is in his seventies then began sobbing, and it was then when I truly appreciated what had been achieved.

This Cup winning team will go into Geordie folklore for being the ones who finally dispelled the curse, if there ever was one.

I savoured my malt and contentedly went to bed, looking forward to Monday morning with my mates.

Our little party in Whitley Bay had been arranged days in advance, and I was joined by my North Shields buddies in the Fat Ox.

Although extremely happy everybody was calm and realistic. This is only the start of what could be a wonderful era for United, our City and black and whiters everywhere.

The eventual homecoming parade and event on the Town Moor was an unforgettable occasion. The whole of the Geordie Nation coming together as one.

Back in the EPL, as I type we have had victories against Brentford and Leicester City. United are now in a fine position to achieve Champions League football next season.

Finally I would like to take this opportunity to thank Eddie Howe and our ambitious owners for all that they have done over the last three and a half years.

At long last the comatised(not slumbering) giant has been awoken. We are all very grateful.
