In the heart of Fish Quay stands a place where laughter, music, and friendship flow as freely as the pints — The Fishnet Tavern. Since opening its doors, the pub has become far more than a place for a drink. Under the passionate leadership of owners Chris and Calum, the Fishnet has grown into a true community cornerstone, bringing people together through entertainment, generosity, and genuine connection.
From day one, Chris and Calum set out with a simple goal — to create a warm, welcoming space where everyone feels like they belong. That vision has blossomed into a thriving hub that embodies the very best of North Shields’ community spirit.
The Fishnet Tavern is also proud and honoured to accommodate ‘Try Tag Newcastle’ players and teams every Monday night. The atmosphere comes alive when the players share their stories from on and off the field and build stronger ties with their team mates. Of course, they do love our roast potatoes, which has become a bit of a legacy amongst them all. Be sure to check out their Instagram as they play locally at the Links!
Every Tuesday night, the pub bursts with energy during the weekly quiz, hosted by our very own Mark and Graham. It’s a lively event that’s become a highlight for locals eager to test their knowledge, share a laugh, and maybe win a few prizes. Then, every fortnight on a Wednesday, the Fishnet transforms into a stage for creativity during its open-mic night, inviting singers, poets, and performers of all kinds to share their talents in front of an encouraging crowd, hosted by local lad Sam Thomas.

As the weekend approaches, the atmosphere turns electric. On Fridays and Saturdays, the Fishnet Tavern comes alive with live music from local bands and artists, followed by sets from the inimitable DJ Chaswick, the pub’s resident DJ known for keeping the dance floor buzzing into the late hours of the night. When it’s time for a singalong, Rob Fox — the ever-charismatic host of the Fishnet’s Kara-Joke nights — ensures everyone gets their moment to shine, every Sunday Night.
The jewel in the crown has to be the Fishnet Taverns ‘drag nights’, hosted by Cameron and our very own Calum. Whether it’s a game of crazy ‘Bongo Bingo’ or just a sing and a dance, their amazing nights have become the talk of the town. Their next performance is a Christmas special on Saturday 6th December, starting at 7pm.
Yet what truly sets the Fishnet Tavern apart isn’t just its entertainment lineup — it’s the deep sense of community and belonging that runs through everything Chris and Calum do.
“When we started the Fishnet Tavern, we didn’t just want customers — we wanted friends,” says co-owner Calum. “Over time, those friends became family. We’ve shared laughs, tears, birthdays, and celebrations together. The people who walk through our doors aren’t just patrons — they’re part of who we are, including their furry friends. We are also honoured to have held a few doggo birthday parties as well!”
That family spirit extends to the amazing team of staff, who Chris and Calum describe as “the true heartbeat of the pub.” From the friendly faces behind the bar to the hardworking team making everything run smoothly, each member plays a vital role in creating the Fishnet’s warm, welcoming atmosphere, so when you next swing by, please be sure to say hello to either Danielle, Elliot, Mushi & Kieran.
“We couldn’t do it without our staff,” adds Chris. “They’re the life and soul of this place — every smile, every chat, every bit of effort they put in makes the Fishnet what it is today.”
The pub’s dedication to its community doesn’t stop within its walls. The Fishnet Tavern proudly sponsors the North Shields Junior Football Club, helping to support young local athletes and strengthen community pride, it’s also a bonus that Chris’s nephew Sam plays for the team as well. Chris and Calum also make a point of getting involved in local charity events and initiatives, showing time and again that the Fishnet Tavern is about much more than good times — it’s about giving back.
Whether it’s a lively quiz night, a soulful acoustic performance, a packed Kara-Joke session, or simply a friendly chat over a pint, the Fishnet Tavern has become a true gathering place for North Shields — where everyone feels welcome, where memories are made, and where community truly comes to life.
With its passionate owners, devoted staff, and loyal customers — or rather, family — the Fishnet Tavern continues to thrive as one of the area’s most cherished local pubs.
