In response to “To Wave or Not To Wave”

By Ellen

Well folks the resounding response was TO WAVE. I shall be waving at all times from now on. I will update on any particularly successful waves and hope to continue hearing news from you all on the wave front too. It’s nice to know that so many of you are keen wavers.

I had a few topical responses to the waving article which I leave here for your consideration:

“I have noticed that as a cyclist there is a certain behaviour around waving. If I go out cycling wearing my cycling gear (lycra etc), other cyclists wearing lycra will wave at me as I pass them. However if I go out cycling wearing normal clothes, the lycra cyclists do not offer me a wave. In fact I am more often than not blanked as I wave at them. Is this lycra-based snobbery? Do only proper cyclists get waves? Is this ok?” – Jai

“I tend to think that the older generation like to wave more. I also have noticed that people wave more in certain places in the country. Do we think that there are generational and/or regional differences in approaches to waving?” – Ben

“I like it when kids are at the age when they wave by opening and closing their hand with fingers stretched out, a bit like they are squeezing a lemon”- Lucy

“I shared a fantastic big wave across the Fish Quay beach with an acquaintance this morning and it is a reminder to us all to be brave and wave!” – Ellen
