The Wild Rose Theatre Group is a dynamic and community-driven
performing arts organisation that focuses on producing quality theatrical
performances.
They provide a platform for local talent to shine, offering a
diverse range of social-led impact stage productions , Wild Rose Theatre
emphasises inclusivity, offering an environment where both professional
performers and newcomers from local communities can collaborate and
develop their skills.
In addition to performances, often engaging the community through
collaborative research, educational programs, and outreach initiatives
aimed at promoting the arts and creative sectors. Their mission is to utilise
drama as an effective and accessible way to explore social issues that can
affect a whole community but is otherwise difficult to address. By involving
local people from the local community.
The arts have always been a powerful vehicle for social change, and we
want to bring high quality, thought provoking pieces into the arena and
empower those who can make change happen, to act. To inspire our
communities to make this a better place for us all and making a difference
for everyone.
Our Sam is a powerful, emotionally charged drama based on the true story
of Samantha Madgin, a young mother who tragically lost her life to knife
crime in 2007 at the age of 18.
The play follows the devastating ripple effects of this senseless act of
violence on her family, friends, and community. It explores themes of grief
and lost potential. The narrative is framed through flashback scenes
recalled prior to the tragedy and, highlighting the irreversible impact of
knife crime.
This is a knife crime prevention and awareness production brought to life
from our creative sector Wild Roses Theatre Group in collaboration with
Samantha’s Legacy with support from Gateshead College and surround
educational programs throughout our North East region.
Samanthas legacy was launched in 2019 on what would have been
Samanthas 30th Birthday. The purpose and visions for samanthas legacy
have always been to prevent knife crime and support those affected by
knife crime. Through our educational workshops, we engage with young
people, raising awareness of knife crime by giving them true insight into the
reality.
One vision of ours has always been to connect with young people through
theatre. To see our memories, the good and the bad played out infront of
us to provide mass impact to the audience. We believe using theatre
engages more on a level of young people, a way to reach 100%
engagement.
Our journey so far with Wild Roses Theatre Group has been
an emotional rollercoaster and at a time of emotional reminiscent. It is the
support we receive and the difference we know we are making and have
made that gives us the strength, motivation and determination to carry on.
