More than 1,100 people attended a community-led vintage market on North Shields Fish Quay, with traders and visitors describing the event as one of the best the town has seen in years.
The I Love North Shields Vintage Market, held at Salt Market Social on Sunday 26 April, issued 1,187 free tickets and brought together a curated mix of independent traders, live music, DJs and community-led activities.
Organised by local platform I Love North Shields, the event aimed to celebrate everyday culture while supporting small businesses and creating a space for people to connect.
Feedback from traders and visitors has been overwhelmingly positive.
Carina Rodney, a stallholder at the event, said:
“I had a brilliant time and enjoyed every minute. A huge thank you to the team for a well organised, inclusive and perfectly run event… Best fair ever.”

Another trader added that the day “couldn’t have gone smoother,” praising the organisation and communication in the lead-up to the event.
Visitors also highlighted the atmosphere, with Sarah Clarke saying she “really enjoyed this – a really good atmosphere and great vintage on offer.” She also praised the community spirit after her daughter’s lost phone was handed in and safely returned.
Sue Wilkinson, part of the wider ILNS community, said:
“Absolutely awesome event. What a day. Everyone I spoke to said it was much better than other events, with a great team effort and public response.”
She added that some traders reported significantly higher sales than usual.
The market featured vintage clothing, homewares, books, records and antiques, alongside live music, DJs, a vintage car display and interactive elements including a dress-up corner and on-site storytelling.
The I Love North Shields Photography Collective were also present, documenting the day and capturing moments for the platform’s growing community archive.

Organisers said the event reflects a growing demand for grassroots, community-driven experiences in North Shields, where people are increasingly seeking spaces that bring together local culture, creativity and connection.
The vintage market is the second large-scale event delivered by I Love North Shields, a community interest company focused on celebrating the town through publishing, events and local storytelling.
Following Sunday’s turnout, many attendees and traders have already called for the event to return.
