A Stone’s Throw Festival is more than just a date on the music calendar; for many, it's the undisputed highlight of the North East's cultural year. The quality of the event and the sheer joy it delivers are so reliable that I, like many others, make a point of securing an 'early bird' ticket the instant they drop - often months ahead of the official line-up announcement. This pre-emptive commitment speaks volumes about the festival's inherent quality and the profound trust the audience places in its visionary founder.

Back in November, Manchester indie singer Seb Lowe and his band visited North Shields for the first time, spending two days in town whilst they filmed their latest music video. The project was being produced by local company Crew Gal, alongside students from their ‘Get on Set’ video production course. As a former Crew Gal student, I was fortunate enough to be hired as ‘artist liaison’ on this video, which in simple terms means looking after the band!
A sold-out reunion by The Pirates at King Street Social became a powerful tribute to Janine Turnbull, raising vital funds for Motor Neurone Disease research. Led by her husband John, Team Janine has already raised £45,000 in her memory — and the night carried that mission forward. With emotional performances, community solidarity and a surprise appearance from Sam Fender, the event proved this was more than a gig — it was a declaration of lasting love and defiant hope.
Sam Fender has landed another Official Number 1, putting North Shields back in the national spotlight. Explore the hometown landmarks, lyrics and local venues that shaped his rise from Tyneside teen to chart-topping artist.

From local blues outfits to chart success, founder Rod Clements began his journey in the town that shaped the band’s sound. With classics like Meet Me on the Corner and enduring anthem Fog on the Tyne, their music still resonates today — even inspiring artists such as Sam Fender. Decades on, the roots remain unmistakably North Shields.
