North Shields has been getting plenty of love lately — and this week, one of the North East’s favourite YouTube creators, Eddy from Tyneside Life, paid our town a visit to dig deeper into its history, streets, and hidden stories. The I Love North Shields (ILNS) team were buzzing to show him around, and the result is a brilliant new video that shines a fresh light on the place we call home.

Who Is Eddy? A North East Story Worth Telling
If you’re not familiar with Eddy from Tyneside Life, let us introduce you to someone who has quietly become one of the North East’s most-loved online storytellers.
- Born and raised a Geordie on the banks of the Tyne
- First Newcastle United match in 1976 — season ticket holder since 1994
- Served 14 years in the RAF
- Continued his public service with Northumbria and Cumbria Police
- Retired in 2016 at the age of 50
In 2021, after many years of difficulties, Eddy was diagnosed as Autistic (ASD). Around that time, he picked up a camera and started something new — teaching himself everything from scratch.
His channel, Tyneside Life, blends football culture, travel, local history, the outdoors, and even geopolitics into videos that are honest, thoughtful, and full of North East spirit.
Today, he has over 70,000 subscribers, two border collies by his side, and a clear mission:

Exploring North Shields with ILNS
During his visit, the ILNS team showed Eddy around some of our favourite spots and talked about the layers of history that sit on every corner of North Shields. From the Fish Quay to the old streets, from the changing town centre to the hidden gems people often walk past — there was a lot to take in.
