A new chapter is taking shape in the heart of North Shields.
Located on Stephenson Street, Laurel Cove is a new residential development delivering 28 much-needed homes for local people and helping to bring fresh life to an important part of the town centre.
Developed by Karbon Homes in partnership with Adderstone Group, the scheme offers a mix of modern houses and apartments designed to make home ownership more accessible, while supporting the wider regeneration of North Shields.
In our latest video feature, we take a closer look around Laurel Cove, hear from those involved in delivering the project and meet some of the residents who are already beginning their next chapter in North Shields.
Helping Local People Stay Local
For many people, getting onto the property ladder can feel increasingly difficult.
Laurel Cove has been designed to address some of these challenges by offering a range of affordable housing options, including both Rent to Buy and Shared Ownership homes.
These schemes help people take their first steps towards home ownership while remaining part of the communities where they already live, work and have family connections.
For many residents, that opportunity is invaluable.
North Shields has always been a town built on strong community connections, and developments such as Laurel Cove aim to ensure local people can continue to build their futures here.
More Than Just New Homes
While the homes themselves are an important addition to the town, the development also forms part of a wider story taking place across North Shields.
In recent years, significant investment has been made across the town centre, with a growing focus on regeneration, new housing, public spaces, independent businesses and creating a vibrant place for people to live.
Projects like Laurel Cove demonstrate how housing can play an important role in supporting the future of North Shields by bringing more residents into the town centre and helping create sustainable, thriving neighbourhoods.
As more people choose to live in and around the town centre, local businesses, cafes, shops and community organisations can all benefit from increased footfall and activity.
Meet the New Residents
One of the most heartwarming aspects of the project is hearing directly from the people who now call Laurel Cove home.
For some, it’s their first step onto the property ladder.
For others, it’s an opportunity to remain close to family, friends and the community they know and love.
Their stories provide a powerful reminder that developments are ultimately about people, not just buildings.
Every new front door represents a new beginning.
