‘Tommy Smalls and Friends’ urban smallholding in North Shields is a hive of activity and animal love! You might have spotted Reginald – a beautiful piebald ‘Gypsy Cobb’ – pulling a neat yellow trap around the town. Then there’s David – what a great name for a horse – who was keen to get his muzzle right to the bottom of a large bin of hay. And not forgetting the two smallest horses, Buddy Holly and Kenny Rogers.
The ‘friends’ in the smallholding also include ducks and chickens, who provide a regular supply of eggs. And talking of regular supplies – keen local gardeners should take note that it’s also a fantastic source of horse manure, which can work wonders on your compost heap!
The smallholding has been tucked away in the backstreets of North Shields since 2017 and these animal friends are the passion of Alexis and James, their parents Alexis and Tom, and grandma, Mary. All of them devoted to their menagerie of animals and, with strong roots in the town, they’re equally passionate about North Shields
It’s ‘the good life’, but definitely North Shields style!
