A New Kind of Noticeboard: Community Sticker Artwork Starts in North Shields

WE WERE HERE: First Stickers Launch North Shields’ New Community Canvas

A new piece of community artwork has quietly begun inside Salt Market Social, with the first stickers placed on a set of grey doors earlier today.

The initiative, led by I Love North Shields, invites anyone passing through to leave their own sticker — turning the doors into an open, evolving noticeboard shaped by the people who use the space.

The first additions, including an “I Love North Shields” sticker, now mark the starting point of what is expected to grow into a layered collage of local identity, creativity and presence.

There is no formal structure to the project. Visitors are encouraged to take part in their own way, whether representing a business, a band, an artist or simply leaving a personal mark. Each contribution adds to a shared visual record of the town’s community.

Set within one of North Shields’ most active cultural venues, the idea reflects a wider shift towards informal, people-led expression — where artwork develops organically rather than being commissioned or curated.

At this early stage, the doors remain mostly bare. But that is part of the point.

Over time, the surface is expected to fill, building gradually into something that captures a moment in North Shields — not through a single voice, but through many.

Visitors heading to Salt Market Social are invited to bring a sticker and take part.
