Men from the North – The Grand History of North Shields Football Club, researched and written by Old Low Light volunteer Trudi Thompson, is a powerful social history of football in North Shields — a story that began with a shocking 1950s transfer and a 1969 cup final that drew 47,000 fans. What started as one writer’s curiosity soon uncovered a forgotten legacy: a club formed by boys on a piece of wasteland that went on to shape the game both locally and nationally.
From the fishing community to publicans and politicians, North Shields Football Club inspired generations — producing England internationals, world-record signings, and even the founder of Genoa FC. This book is a tribute to the players, officials, and fans who built something remarkable.
