We know that having good, stable employment is one of the key drivers in better health, which is why we have brought together all the fantastic support in one place to make it easier for people to fulfil their aspirations. As well as expert employment advice, there is support to address the wider barriers to employment including finance, debt, housing, and physical and mental health. Working Well North Tyneside has regular sessions with regular sessions with employers so you can find out exactly what they are looking for in candidates and understand the career pathways within their business.
Working within the creative industry can mean that at times there is no guarantee of paid employment. There may be times when you need to rely on finding supplementary paid work such as short-term contracts or part time hours. This is where the Working Well North Tyneside hub can help. We recently supported with ‘Get into Music’ and ‘Get into TV’ events which offered a creative insight into how the industries works. Tell us your ambitions and we’ll do our best to support you to achieve them.
After attending our workshops with Susan French Events, attendees have gone on to do stage work at the Eric Clapton concert in Newcastle and then moved to the Stadium of Light for the Bruce Springsteen concerts.
The Working Well team worked closely with North Shields Cultural Quarter. Together, they have helped people find out more about the music industries. The recent ‘Get into Music’ event brought together experts to help people find routes into music and gain the skills needed to build a career in the industry including Bernii Mac’s Becoming the Artist, Generator and Susan French Events.
The event highlighted opportunities in areas such as promoting, performing, songwriting, composing, stage management, live music, music education, music production, artist management, marketing and music journalism.
Working Well and North Shields Cultural Quarter is part of North Tyneside Council’s ambitious plans for North Shields, enhancing and growing the creative economy. It is supported by North East Combined Authority.
Susan French runs Susan French Events and Crew Gal, a training company and working tech crew from North Shields. She said: “The music industry is thriving in North Shields and the Northeast, there is no reason that with the right support, training and connections people can’t build a sustainable career in music and the creative industries.”
“We are extremely proud of having our base in North Shields, and being surrounded by like-minded creatives can only mean our community will continue to thrive.”
“Moving away to larger cities is no longer necessary to build a career in music, we have some incredible tour managers, production managers, sound engineers and lighting designers on our doorstep working locally and internationally alongside incredible artists.
There’s never been a more exciting time to take those first steps in live music production.”
Bernii Mac, founder of Becoming the Artist, a North Shields based vocal coaching and mentoring agency, said: “I couldn’t be happier to be a part of this ‘Get Into Music’ event.
It’s a wonderful resource and opportunity for the community to learn about the music industry and give them valuable information on how to get involved.”
Previous events have included ‘Get into TV and Film’ and creative writing courses, and we want to help the cultural and creative economy in the town to grow and give it a sustainable future.
Our partners also deliver the ‘Lights, Camera, Take Action’ skills bootcamps to highlight industry skills behind the scenes.
Our service is delivered by North Tyneside Council in partnership with the NHS, Department of Work and Pensions, the community and voluntary sector and local employers and is part funded by the Northeast Combined Authority.
