Current Opportunities
Here’s what we’re currently looking for: from one-off help to ongoing roles. Whether you’ve got a few hours to spare or want to get more stuck in, there’s plenty of ways to support I Love North Shields and be part of something good. It’s a flexible volunteer role, which you can do from home at your own pace.
Voluntary Role: Website Editor
We’re looking for a motivated and organised Website Editor to support the smooth running of our website and ensure content is polished, purposeful and up to date.
Key tasks include:
- Adding new articles to the website regularly
- Preparing content for publishing online, including uploading articles and images, assigning categories, choosing a suitable layout, ensuring content is optimised for SEO, and more
- Managing the Latest News section, keeping it fresh and relevant
- Being part and contributing to the publishing schedule and content process
- Helping with ongoing website admin, like updating older posts with writer and photographer credits, refining categories, making content SEO-friendly, and more
You’ll be great for this role if you:
- Have some experience in editing website content and SEO
- Are organised and detail-oriented
- Communicate clearly and reliably
- Feel comfortable taking ownership and working independently without step-by-step guidance

Voluntary Role: Web Developer (WordPress)
Help us keep the site working beautifully behind the scenes. We’re looking for a skilled and enthusiastic Web Developer with strong WordPress knowledge to support our site’s functionality, performance, and future improvements. Whether it’s solving a technical issue, tweaking layouts, or boosting usability, you’ll be vital in ensuring our community platform runs smoothly and looks great.
Key tasks include:
- Maintaining and updating the WordPress site—including plugin and theme updates, security patches, and backups
- Developing and implementing new features or functionality (with custom code or plugins) to enhance user experience
- Troubleshooting site issues (broken links, layout glitches, slow loading, etc.) and resolving them efficiently
- Ensuring site performance and responsiveness across devices
- Collaborating with the the rest of the website team to support content delivery, including template improvements or layout tweaks that align with SEO and accessibility best practices
- Advising on WordPress best practices, performance optimisation, and backend workflows
You’ll be great for this role if you:
- Are experienced with WordPress development and comfortable working with PHP, HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and site architecture
- Can troubleshoot technical issues independently and think creatively to fix them
- Communicate well with non-technical team members and explain solutions clearly
- Are reliable, motivated, and happy to take ownership—you’ll help decide what needs doing without needing constant direction
