Role: Marianne Butler curates the monthly event list for I Love North Shields.
1. Can you tell us a bit about yourself and your day-to-day life?
I am a business owner living in Whitley Bay, with a creative studio based in Harbour House in North Shields. I design + code bespoke websites + apps, as well as teaching yoga + offering astrology consultations. When I’m not working, you’ll often find me sketching with a coffee in a local cafe, walking on the beach with a podcast, or wriggling around in a yoga studio somewhere.
2. What inspired you to become a content creator/writer for I Love North Shields?
I love the idea of having a platform where local people can contribute – there’s so much talent in this area! I’m super impressed by the consistency and the quality of the publication so far.
3. Can you tell us about your favorite place in North Shields and why it holds special meaning for you?
I love the little walk around the bay from the Fish Quay to Haven beach. I adore the ferry ride to and from South Shields. I’m here for that stunning view, and the life it inspires.
4. What type of content do you enjoy creating the most, and what message do you hope to share with our readers?
I’m a visual designer, so I love to layout pages to make them engaging but also easy to read. I also think it’s so important to promote local events, because a lot of the existing listing platforms are really difficult to navigate – we have so much to explore in this area, and I’m always keen to help get people joining in events and group activities.
5. What does community pride mean to you, and how does your work contribute to it?
It’s a celebration of talent, and an opportunity for everyone to contribute to culture, but alongside that is a responsibility to try to protect the planet – that’s my focus right now in my design business.
6. Can you share a memorable project or piece you’ve worked on for I Love North Shields?
I have put together the events listings for most issues of ILNS so far!
