Looking for Harmony. A poem by Jeannie Fraser

When I first came to choir
I made my 13 year old daughter come with me
For protection
Choir was a hall full of people
A squadron of chairs
And no idea where to sit
People smiled, which helped
I did not know what I was
Disconcerting at 55
The “Lows” adopted me
I had a chair
But we didn’t sit
We warmed up
I was already warm
Hot flush with sub text of anxiety
You sang
I felt at home
Voices became song
People became choir
Life is all about change
Choir is on Tuesdays
People join and leave
Choir is on Tuesdays
Days can feel good or bad
Choir is on Tuesdays
I didn’t think I could sing

All those years ago
I am not convinced I can sing now
But I can listen
Breathe
And join in
