One Ferry and Hundreds of Stories Waiting to Be Told
Today, around 40 photographers of all ages and abilities came together for the latest I Love North Shields Photography Collective photo walk.
Our journey began in North Shields, where we boarded the iconic ferry across the River Tyne to South Shields, giving everyone the opportunity to explore both sides of the river through their own unique perspective.
It was wonderful to welcome so many familiar faces, alongside people joining us for the very first time. Some carried professional cameras, others used compact cameras or simply their phones. It didn’t matter. What brought everyone together was a shared curiosity and a passion for documenting the places and people that make our communities unique.
The I Love North Shields Photography Collective is about much more than photography. It is about slowing down, seeing familiar places with fresh eyes and creating a lasting record of everyday life across North Shields, South Shields and the wider North East.
Every participant notices something different. A quiet street, reflections on the Tyne, conversations on the ferry, hidden architecture, wildlife, street scenes or moments that most of us walk past every day. Together, these individual perspectives create something much bigger—a living archive of our region, made by the people who know it best.
Over the coming days we’ll begin receiving photographs from today’s walk. Selected images will be featured across the I Love North Shields website, social media channels, exhibitions, promotional material and our future Photography Collective Magazine, always with full credit to the photographer.

Meet Us at the ILNS Vintage Market
The Photography Collective will also have a stall at the I Love North Shields Vintage Market on Saturday 26 July, from 10am–4pm at Salt Market Social.
Come along to meet the team, see what we’ve been working on and find out how you can get involved. The day will feature 50+ curated vintage and antique traders, live music, independent food and drink, community organisations and one of the best community atmospheres on the coast.
