When local author Pat Stevens moved to Tynemouth a few years ago, she was surprised – but delighted – to see wall plaques celebrating the lives of four remarkable women who made significant contributions during the 19th and 20th centuries. Each lived in Tynemouth at various times and commemorative plaques were later installed on their homes.

I Love North Shields has unveiled a new limited-edition tote bag in collaboration with Norham High School , marking a celebration of community identity, creativity and the values that underpin one of the town’s leading comprehensive schools.

At the heart of North Shields, the Fish Quay is far more than a scenic waterfront. As the UK’s largest prawn port, it lands vast quantities of langoustines and fresh fish each year, supplying kitchens locally and nationwide. From boat to plate, seafood travels mere metres before reaching restaurants like Just Italy and Phil's Place. This is a town that feeds the nation — and serves its own catch with pride.
