the cultural gems that North Shields already has to offer.
Pre-match I went into the new Sheepfolds Stables bar between the end of the new footbridge and the SoL (a nice bar to be fair) to meet up with friends. Hellie and Varley (both former NUWFC players) were there as well as a lot of Newcastle fans, I took a photo of the inside to show both sets of fans mixing well but struggled to find many in red & white in attendance!
The third match in a week brought a second home game and pitted the Lasses against Crystal Palace who were third before the kick-off with Newcastle in fourth. With four games left (after this one) and Charlton well clear at the top it’s a four-way fight between Birmingham, Crystal Palace, Bristol City and Newcastle United for the one remaining automatic promotion spot and the play-off place (against the bottom WSL side, which is looking like it’s going to be Leicester).
After two months away, Mark Stutt was back at Gateshead International Stadium to watch Newcastle United Women take on Ipswich Town — and it proved a frustrating return. A brilliant, looping strike from Beth Lumsden lit up a dominant first-half display, but the Lasses were pegged back and couldn’t turn control into victory. With promotion ambitions stalling, it took a late save from Anna Tamminen to rescue a point on a sobering afternoon.

Mushroom Meander with the Natural History Society of Northumbria. We went along to the Mushroom Meander at Gosforth Nature Reserve on Tuesday 4 November, and honestly, it was the perfect way to spend a crisp autumn morning. Led by Ellie Davison, the walk took us along the Ouse Burn Way — a surprisingly wild stretch right in the heart of the city.
