This spring, I Love North Shields launches a celebration of everyday heritage, local stories and creative reuse. Handpicked vintage, antiques and objects with a past sit alongside music, making and style that shaped ordinary life. Slow down, browse with curiosity, and rediscover things made to last: workwear, vinyl, books, ceramics and one-off finds chosen for their character and story. A relaxed, nostalgic day rooted in the past, reimagined for now, with music, making, and local creativity throughout.
North Shields has always been shaped by its young people — their creativity, energy and ideas. Yet too often, young voices are missing from how the town is represented, remembered and imagined. Next Gen is a proposed new project from I Love North Shields in collaboration with Miriam Robson, designed to change that. Currently in development and subject to funding, Next Gen aims to create a youth-led edition of the I Love North Shields magazine, co-created with young people and rooted in their lived experience of the town today. This is not about telling young people what to say. It’s about creating the conditions for them to speak for themselves.

We work with writers, photographers, filmmakers, creatives and event volunteers who want to contribute something meaningful, thoughtful and distinctive. Before applying, please read this page carefully. It explains how we work, what we’re looking for, and what you can expect in return.

This pop-up has been made possible through an innovative scheme by The Business Factory North Tyneside, following the success of their pop-up shop at Wallsend’s Forum Shopping Centre. I Love North Shields is a community-led magazine and storytelling platform rooted in everyday life, local voices and place pride. It exists to ensure the stories of North Shields are told properly — consistently, independently and with care. What began as a small, grassroots publication has grown into something larger: a connector, a collaborator and a piece of local cultural infrastructure built with and for the people who live here. This article sets out what we do, the impact it has on local people, and why this model matters beyond one town.

As part of the North Shields 800 celebrations, a long-overlooked piece of local maritime heritage was brought back into the spotlight today with the unveiling of a newly restored oil painting titled The Royal Visit to the Tyne, August 1884, by North Shields-born artist John Davison Liddell (1859–1942).
