#ILNSPhotowalk4: Before the Tide Turns
North Shields → South Shields Ferry at Sunset
Some moments in a town’s life are quiet ones — the everyday routines that don’t make headlines, but shape how a place feels.
With a new ferry landing being built, now feels like the right moment to pause and document North Shields as it is today.
For ILNS Photowalk #4, we’re inviting our community to join us for a special early evening walk: photographing the Fish Quay, the ferry crossing, the River Tyne, and the changing light as the sun sets — before this familiar landscape shifts.
This photowalk is about noticing, recording and sharing a moment in time.
What we’ll be documenting
- North Shields Fish Quay and riverside life
- The ferry journey itself — a daily ritual and living heritage
- The Tyne at golden hour
- Views back towards North Shields from the water and South Shields
- The small, human details that tell the real story of a place
This is not about perfect shots or fancy kit. You’re welcome to shoot on phone, film or digital. What matters is curiosity, observation and being present.
The route
- Meet at North Shields Fish Quay
- Photograph the quay, river, boats and ferry terminal
- Take the ferry across to South Shields
- Capture the sunset and changing light
- Reflect on both sides of the river and what’s about to change
Why this matters
Change isn’t something to fear — but it is something to document.
By walking together and photographing this moment, we’re creating a shared visual record of North Shields.
- Submitted images may be shared across I Love North Shields platforms (with full credit) and could contribute to future print, digital and heritage projects.
