Residents and local photographers gathered in North Shields this weekend for the fourth I Love North Shields (ILNS) Photowalk, a community event celebrating the town through photography.
The free walk brought together people of all experience levels, from hobby photographers to those simply using their phones, to explore the streets and waterfront while capturing images of everyday life in the town.
Organised by the I Love North Shields community magazine, the photo walks aim to encourage people to meet in person, share their passion for photography and document the changing character of the town.
Participants walked together through parts of North Shields, stopping along the way to photograph harbour scenes, historic streets and small moments of daily life that often pass unnoticed.
The photographs taken during the walks also contribute to a growing I Love North Shields community archive, helping record the town as it looks and feels today.
The event was co-hosted by local photographers Gary Ormston (@gpo_visuals), Rachel Riley (@rachel_riley_photography), Gazza (@nostalgia_kid) and Jess Riley (@jess_rileyphotos), who helped guide participants and encourage new photographers to take part.
The photo walks are open to anyone interested in photography, with organisers emphasising that the events are designed to be welcoming and informal.
Participants are encouraged to bring any camera — from professional equipment to smartphones — with the focus on enjoying the experience and seeing the town from new perspectives.
Since launching, the ILNS photowalks have gradually grown into a regular creative meet-up for local residents who share an interest in photography and North Shields.
Organisers say the walks are not only about photography but also about community, connection and celebrating the everyday character of the town.
Images from the walk will be shared through the I Love North Shields platform and social media as part of the project’s ongoing effort to document life in the town.
The event was the fourth in the ILNS photo walk series, with more expected to take place in the year.
Participants are invited to share their images online using the hashtag #ILNSPhotowalk4.
